PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Gunfire at a north Philadelphia home apparently being used as an illegal speakeasy killed two people and wounded four others over the weekend, authorities said.
Capt. Christopher Bradshaw said officers responded just before 1 a.m. Sunday to the home in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood.
Bradshaw said a 53-year-old man shot in the head was pronounced dead at the scene and a 42-year-old also shot in the chest and thigh was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. A 42-year-old man shot in the hand was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Bradshaw said three other people also arrived at local hospitals in private vehicles with wounds believed to have been sustained during the same episode. He said the victims were a 22-year-old woman shot in a leg, a 28-yearold man shot three times in the leg and hip and a 33-year-old woman shot twice in an arm. All were in stable condition.
Police said at least 10 shots were fired as one or more people apparently opened fire from the street into the building’s front door and a window. No arrests were immediately reported, and Bradshaw said a motive for the shooting hasn’t yet been determined.
